MOLDBOARDS & SHINS

Along with plow shares, moldboards and shins are major parts of a plow bottom. And as wear parts, they need periodic inspection and replacement. The good news? We carry a selection of OEM-quality moldboards and shins to get your plows ready for the season. Shop for premium moldboards and shins at CNH Industrial.

Service Lives

The moldboard is the curved surface on a plow that turns over the soil. The shin fits on the vertical, leading edge of the moldboard, reducing wear on the moldboard and prolonging its service life.

Shins receive more intense wear than moldboards do and so need replacement more often. What’s more, while wear on a moldboard usually poses no harm to other parts, excess wear on shins can be more costly. That’s because it can expose another part to wear — the plow’s frog, which holds the plow bottom together.

It’s easy to give your moldboards a pass. They can suffer a lot of wear and still do their job. But take a closer look at their shins. Replacing them could spare you trouble down the road.
