LED Lights
The most popular worklights by far are LEDs — and no wonder. Compared to HID and halogen lights, LEDs offer:
● Extremely bright light output
● Wide, uniform beam patterns
● Lower power consumption
● Longer service lives
Energy-saving LED lights are often a better choice for older equipment with limited electrical power. Their upfront costs are generally higher, but their longer service lives and longer lasting bulbs bring down their total cost of ownership. If you’re investing for the long run, and need maximum visibility, LEDs are probably the way to go.
HID Lights
High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights still have points in their favor. While LEDs may have overtaken them in brightness, they’re more than bright enough for most uses, and they’re brighter and less power hungry than comparable halogen lamps. The upfront costs of HID lighting are also generally lower than LEDs — useful if you need a cost-effective solution right now.
So, HID lighting is an easy choice if you’re replacing halogen lamps and don’t want to pay a premium. But if you’re adding lights to older equipment, make sure to consider how much power the new lights require. Some older equipment may need an alternator to support them.
